Acupuncturist ‘trained’ via YouTube jailed after man dies

A SELF-TAUGHT acupuncturist was sentenced to 18 months’ jail for illegal medical practice in Jiangsu province’s Baoying county, China.China Press reported that a man died after being treated by her in June last year.

The man, who had a chronic illness, paid her 500 yuan (RM315) for acupuncture.

During the final session, the man suddenly turned pale and his legs weakened. He collapsed soon after.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, he did not survive.

Forensic examination revealed that the man died of acute heart failure triggered by a coronary heart disease attack.

The woman’s acupuncture treatment was said to be one of the contributing factors.

According to the daily, the woman, who is well-known for her acupuncture skills in the village, had no formal training in the field.

Her acupuncture knowledge came solely from watching online videos.

Her clinical experience was based on experimenting on herself and her husband.

Since the woman had compensated the deceased’s family and received their forgiveness, the court sentenced her to 18 months’ jail for practising medicine illegally.
