Three disabled people among nine survivors of early-morning Mukah shophouse fire

MUKAH: Three individuals with disabilities are among nine survivors of a fire that broke out at a single-storey shophouse in Kuala Balingian here early Saturday (Aug 3) morning.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre spokesman said that the three were a 64-year-old woman and two men aged 30 and 40 years old, respectively.

He added that all the victims were from the same family, and the shophouse served as an eatery.

A team from the Mukah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location after receiving a call on the incident at 2.35am.

Upon arrival, firemen found the premises, which were of a non-permanent structure, destroyed.

"There were nine occupants in the shophouse, and all were safe. The fire did not result in any injuries, and the cause is still under investigation,” he said.

He added that residual fire extinguishing work was carried out using a hose from a nearby open water source, and the operation concluded at 4.48am. – Bernama
