17 detained over deviant teachings in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A total of 17 people have been nabbed in a series of raids against deviationist Muslim groups in at least four districts statewide, says Johor Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

He said a special operation known as Ops Milab (Millah Abraham) was carried out in Batu Pahat, Pontian, Muar and Segamat on Aug 1.

He added that it was a special operation involving the state religious department together with the police.

"This operation was carried out to stamp out the deviationist teachings of the Millah Abraham sect which has been declared deviationist by the state since 2015," he said in a statement.

He warned that the state government would continue to take stern actions to stop such teachings in the state.

He urged the public to be careful and not to be taken in by such teachings and also to report such suspicious teachings to the authorities.
