53 illegals nabbed during Immigration op at entertainment outlets in Perak

IPOH: Some 53 illegal immigrants have been arrested during an operation at two entertainment outlets here.

Perak Immigration Department director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said those arrested included 25 women from China, 16 from Vietnam and one each from Thailand and Indonesia.

"We also arrested 10 men from Bangladesh during the operation between 1.30am and 6am on Sunday (Aug 4).

"They all are aged between 18 and 45," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 4).

Meor Hezbullah said the foreigners were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act and Immigration Regulations.

"They are currently being detained at the immigration depot here to be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering the country without valid passes, Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying in the country and other offences under the Regulations.

"The state Immigration Department hopes that the community would report or complain to them to combat illegal immigrants," he said.

"Aside from illegal immigrants, the department would also take legal actions against any employers or individuals found to have employed or harboured them illegally," he added.
