Cops looking for religious pamphlet suspects


MELAKA: Police are looking for two women who were seen in a TikTok video allegedly handing out pamphlets for “Free Bible Courses” outside Surau Warisan in Bandar Hilir here.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said a Melaka Religious Department (Jaim) official had lodged a police report on Friday which claimed that the women were caught on video distributing the pamphlets.

“In his report, the Jaim official said he had watched the video, which was uploaded by another individual, and want police to act on two individuals seen distributing the materials, close to the stairways leading to the surau,” he said yesterday.

“We will summon the two women seen in the video to assist in our probe.”

The investigation is being carried out under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of ill will that prejudices the maintenance of religious harmony.

Four reports have so far been lodged over the incident, DCP Zainol said, two in Melaka Tengah and one each in Alor Gajah and Merlimau.
