Man dies after 4WD hits tree in Sandakan


KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed after his four-wheel drive crashed into a tree along Mile 3, Jalan Utara in Sandakan district on Sunday (Aug 4) morning.

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abd Malek said the 26-year-old victim was travelling alone when the accident happened at around 3.30am.

“The victim was believed to be heading into Sandakan town when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree on a road divider,” he said in a statement.

He said the man sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fire and Rescue Department said its personnel arrived at 3.32am after receiving an emergency call.

The victim was pinned inside the car and firemen had to use rescue equipment to extricate him.

Medical officials pronounced the victim dead and his body was handed over to police for further action.
