PUTRAJAYA: A new candidate for the position of Chief Secretary to the Government will be announced soon, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“No (we don’t have a candidate) but we will announce it very soon,” he said when speaking to reporters at the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly on Monday (Aug 5).
Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali’s two-year contract will end on Aug 10.
Earlier when addressing the assembly, Anwar paid tribute to the out-going Chief Secretary to the Government, saying that Mohd Zuki’s advice and views have helped the administration record positive outcomes for Malaysia.
The Prime Minister had announced that this was the last monthly assembly that Mohd Zuki would be attending as the top civil servant.
“The Chief Secretary may have worked with other prime ministers before me; from the first day I took office, he has shared views and given sound advice that is for the betterment of the civil service and the country,” Anwar said.
Anwar said that as the Prime Minister, he is in constant communication with Mohd Zuki and had even called the latter at odd hours and during weekends.
“Not once did he complain. In fact, he will help me find the best solution to whatever issues or problems that I have raised,” he said.
Mohd Zuki has held the post since Dec 31, 2019.
On Aug 11, 2022, he was reappointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government on a contract basis for two years
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Nanyang University, Singapore and has served in the Finance Ministry, Education Ministry as well as the the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
Mohd Zuki has also served in the Finance Ministry, Home Ministry and Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.
He has also served at Istana Negara and the Prime Minister's Department and has held positions as the Sarawak Federal Secretary and Secretary-General of the Defence Ministry.
