Cops nab seven drug syndicate members in Batu Pahat


BATU PAHAT: Police have arrested seven drug syndicate members and seized various drugs worth more than RM890,000 during a raid here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the raid was carried out at around 7pm on Thursday (Aug 1) at an apartment unit here.

"We arrested four local men and three foreign women aged from 21 to 38. All tested positive for drugs but none have criminal records.

"The syndicate, which has been active since last month, used the apartment to store and repackage the drugs," he said here on Wednesday (Aug 7).

ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added police also seized 5.21kg of ecstasy powder worth RM827,000, 65 ecstasy pills worth RM3,250, 56 Eramine 5 pills worth RM1,120, and 96.4g of ketamine worth RM19,292.

He said police also seized an SUV, a motorcycle and RM2,380 in cash.

"The total value of all seized items, including the drugs, is RM988,392," he said, adding that all suspects were remanded for investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In an unrelated case, police arrested four men for stealing RM20,000 worth of cables along the Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) around Layang-Layang in Kluang.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said a police report was lodged last Wednesday (July 31) over the cable theft.

"Police arrested four local men aged from 30 to 40 years in four locations around Layang-Layang at around 1am on Friday (Aug 2) morning," he said.

ACP Bahrin added that three suspects have previous criminal records and all four tested positive for drugs.

Police also seized a car and a motorcycle that was reported stolen in Kulai, a green vest, a yellow safety helmet, 685m of fibre optic cable, eight coils of cable, a saw and a knife.

"With the arrests, police have solved five cable theft cases in Kluang, with losses estimated at RM20,000," he said, adding that the suspects have since been remanded for investigations under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
