EXECUJET UNVEILS LARGEST BIZ AVIATION MRO IN M’SIA

The ExecuJet MRO Services team is made up of a highly skilled workforce and is certified by 15 civil aviation regulators around the world.

IN THE rapidly evolving aviation industry, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services play a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficiency and longevity of aircraft.

Despite the booming growth in air travel, South-East Asia has long faced a shortage of MRO facilities, attributed to a lack of infrastructure and specialised expertise. This scarcity has often compelled business jet owners to seek services outside the region, resulting in higher costs and extended downtimes.

However, a significant shift is on the horizon. ExecuJet MRO Services Malaysia is set to showcase its new, state-of-the-art MRO facility at the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2024, held at SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre from Sept 12-14.

“In the past, aircraft owners would have preferred to send their business jets to Europe or North America for heavier maintenance checks. Now, that work is largely done in Asia with the emergence of major MRO facilities, with our latest facility being one of them,” says ExecuJet MRO Services Asia regional vice president Ivan Lim.

State-of-the-art MRO facility

Owned by Dassault Aviation and based at Subang Airport, ExecuJet MRO Services is the largest business aviation MRO organisation in the country.

The company is also a certified multi-OEM service provider, which enables it to perform heavy and line maintenance on a wide range of business jets including those from Dassault Aviation, Gulfstream and Bombardier.

Lim says the new 149,500sq ft facility will not only help the company expand its operations and MRO capabilities but also strengthen its presence in the country and region as a whole. “The business aviation industry in Asia, particularly South-East Asia, has witnessed phenomenal growth, driving the demand for MRO services.

“We saw this as an opportunity to grow our business and design a larger, purpose-built facility to cater to the growth in the market, which enables us to expand our MRO capabilities,” he says.

Lim adds that the new facility is the country’s largest business aviation MRO centre and can accommodate 15 medium-to-large-sized business jets simultaneously, including the ultra-large-cabin Dassault Falcon 6X and Falcon 10X.

The facility will also aid the company in optimising its range of services for customers, as it is designed to optimise workflow to drive efficiency and comfort within day-to-day MRO operations.

“The purpose-built facility offers customers the full suite of MRO services from line maintenance, aircraft on ground support, heavy maintenance checks, cabin refurbishments, satellite communications installation, avionics upgrades and advanced modifications,” he says.

“Measuring 105,000sq ft, the hangar floor area also includes new features such as a built-in over-crane for aircraft engine changes, an underground utility pit and large hangar doors.

“The benefit of having a larger MRO facility is that capacity is improved with more maintenance slots available, providing greater flexibility for customers, with quicker turnaround times.”

The facility also includes various environmental features, such as rainwater harvesting tanks, as well as employing the use of low-energy LED lights and high-volume low-speed fans.

Skilled workforce

At the SAS 2024, ExecuJet MRO Services will be bringing along its team of skilled technicians and engineers to showcase the expertise of its workforce. “We invest in our people through continuous learning and training, to help them be internationally certified on various aircraft types.

“Technicians and aircraft maintenance engineers have to be kept abreast of the current aviation practices, rules and regulations, and products and technologies.”

ExecuJet MRO Services is certified by 15 civil aviation regulators around the world, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, Civil Aviation Administration of China, European Aviation Saftey Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration.

Regional aviation hub

Lim explains that Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing market for business aviation and that Malaysia has the potential to become a strategic hub for regional MRO services.

“Malaysia is a strategic location for regional MRO services because it is centrally located in the Asia-Pacific region. It also has a large pool of talented and qualified maintenance engineers and technicians.

“Our new MRO facility is enhancing Malaysia’s status as a regional centre for MRO, as our facility is world-class and internationally certified, and we also have strong relationships with various aircraft manufacturers, as well as business jet operators around the region,” he says.

Lim shares that, since the launch of its new facility, the company has attracted interest from clients and operators from across Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Japan, China and the Philippines.
