WRACKED with guilt, a man in China’s Jiangsu province surrendered to the police after stealing another man’s mobile phone at a train station, reported China Press.

According to Zhenjiang city police, the man gave himself up to the authorities on Aug 2 after spending the night outdoors.

The man, whose surname was Cao, claimed to be facing financial woes and stole the phone before running away.

However, the first-time offender felt so uneasy throughout the journey out of Zhenjiang that he returned to the city to turn himself in.

As the Nanjing Railway police station was closed for the night, the man spent the night outside the station before he was able to report his crime to the police and return the phone he had stolen.

Police are currently investigating the matter.

> A 29-year-old bank manager in China shocked her supervisor and other colleagues after applying for leave to take part in a public event in conjunction with the 2024 Paris Olympics, reported China Press.

Customer relationship manager Xu Yiming was among 20,024 runners who received the invitation to the Marathon For All event after completing a series of challenges over the past two years.

Her supervisor thought Xu was joking when she applied for leave but gave her his full support after finding out that it was genuine.

“Leave approved! Run like a Chinese!” he said.

Xu was reported to have set her mind on taking part in the event since 2021 and would wake up to train at 5am every morning.

In the past three years, Xu has clocked an average of 3,000km per year in running distance and worn out so many shoes that she joked that it was enough to “open my own shoe shop”.

According to reports, the 2024 Paris Olympics launched an open-to-the-public event known as Marathon Pour Tous, or Marathon For All.

To participate in the run, participants had to complete a series of online challenges and then enter a lottery for selection.
