KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested 333 drug dealers and addicts in the first seven months of this year.
Labuan police chief Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said the raids conducted by its anti-narcotics unit also saw the seizure of various types of drugs weighing some 368.21 grams.
“A total of 23 people were detained for distribution of drugs while the others were abusing drugs,” he said in a press conference in Labuan on Wednesday (Aug 7).
Among the drugs confiscated were syabu, cannabis and ecstasy pills, he said, adding that the seizure amounted to more than RM24,000.
“The police also seized various assets worth over RM44,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” he added.
Supt Mohd Hamizi said two individuals had been put under custody under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985, adding that they have been convicted and are serving their sentences presently.
He said the Labuan police were serious and committed over weeding out the drug menace on the Federal Territory island.
