Toddler in Perak suspected to have died from abuse, neglect


IPOH: A two-year-old girl here has died from suspected abuse and neglect.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the victim passed away at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital on Wednesday (Aug 6) at about 11.10pm while being treated.

"The report was made by a paediatric doctor at the hospital. The girl was admitted to the hospital by her father after being found to be unconscious at her nanny's home on Tuesday (Aug 5)," he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 7).

He added that the girl is said to have fallen to the floor, and said that a report had been lodged by the father on Tuesday.

Comm Azizi said the post-mortem on the victim found that she had died from blunt trauma to the head.

He added that the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for child abuse and neglect is ongoing.

"We have arrested the 30-year-old nanny and recorded statements from witnesses. We are serious on such cases and urge people to not take any actions that are against the law," he said.

"We also urge the people not to speculate on the matter and any information related to the incident is to be forwarded to the police," he added.
