Collision with palm fruit lorry in Johor led to death of senior citizen

KLUANG: A senior citizen passed away while being treated at the emergency ward of Enche Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital after being involved in an accident near here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident took place at Jalan Felda Kahang Timur on Thursday (Aug 8) at 6.30am.

He said the victim, identified as Bah Seis Abdullah, 67, was sitting in the passenger seat of a car driven by his son, Muhammad Haziq Bah Seis, 24.

“The victim, a diabetes patient, was on his way to the hospital for his dialysis treatments,’’ ACP Bahrin said in a statement on Thursday.

He said a lorry loaded with oil palm fruits parked on the left side of the road shoulder was waiting for its turn to enter the Felda Kahang oil palm.

ACP Bahrin said the Perodua Viva car driven by Muhammad Haziq suddenly hit the rear part of the lorry’s left tyre, badly damaging the car.

“The victim suffered injuries on his left arm and was rushed to the hospital,’’ he said.

ACP Bahrin said the victim was pronounced dead by doctors at 9am.

“The driver of the car, who was unemployed, escaped unhurt, and initial investigation found he did not possess a valid driving license,’’ he said.

ACP Bahrin said the 37-year-old lorry driver, Mohd Shafiee Ruji, also escaped unhurt.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
