Agro Madani sales in Sarawak achieve 90% success rate, says Fama chairman

LAWAS: The Agro Madani sales programme in Sarawak has been successful in meeting its goals to provide consumers with easy access to essential food and to give local entrepreneurs an opportunity and alternative platform to market their products, says Federal Agricultural Marketing Board (Fama) chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli.

In fact, he said the organisation of the programme in the state had recorded a success rate of 90%.

"Prices offered during the programme are 10% to 30% lower than the normal market price and it will continue to be organised for the rest of this year,” he said after the launch of the Agro Sale at Lawas Tamu Market in conjunction with the Road to MAHA 2024 @ Sarawak Convoy on Friday (Aug 9).

Aminuddin also called on the people of Sarawak, especially entrepreneurs, to participate and market their products at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2024 at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park Serdang (MAEPS) slated from Sept 11 to 22.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Ismail said the Agro Madani sales programme has also inspired the Lawas community to continue developing local products.

"We need to make optimal use of Lawas' strategic location to boost sales and promote agrotourism, cultural tourism and nature tourism. Located in the northern area of Sarawak, Lawas is very strategic because it neighbours two countries, Brunei and Indonesia, as well as the state of Sabah,” he said.

The Road to MAHA 2024 @ Sarawak Convoy features a variety of activities including exploring interesting areas with the potential to produce modern agricultural technology and agrotourism, and holding dialogue and engagement sessions with local farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen.

It is also a platform to build a network between various stakeholders involved in the agricultural value chain and a continuation of the Road to MAHA 2024 @ Sabah last July. – Bernama
