Elderly doc hits RM23.3mil Toto jackpot with wife's car number

KUALA LUMPUR: Four lucky winners including a septuagenarian walked away with a total of RM26.66mil in July Toto Jackpot prize money.

Winning the majority of it was a doctor in his 70s from Pahang, who won RM23.3mil in the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 on July 24.

He told STM Lottery Sdn Bhd that he bet on his wife’s car registration number and a set of random four-digit (4D) numbers.

"I wanted to buy a System 7 ticket but only got six sets of 4D numbers which included my wife’s car registration number.

"So I decided to come up with another set of numbers which was identical to the car registration number.

“I chose the pair of winning numbers which looked like each other and sounded lucky – 9938 and 8388.

"When the numbers look and sound lucky, they bring you fortune,” he was quoted as saying in a statement released by STM Lottery on Thursday (Aug 8).

He said he would gift the winnings to his children.

“I am old and do not need so much money.

"I will give the money to my children so they can use it wisely to expand their businesses and live comfortably,” he said, adding that he enjoyed the betting process and winning was just a bonus.

The remainder of over RM406,000 from the same 4D Jackpot was won by a punter from Sarawak.

Two winners, one from Sabah and the other from Selangor, shared a RM2.9mil jackpot on July 27.

The 37-year-old construction manager from Sabah won the bulk of the jackpot, RM2.85mil.
