Prioritise education to secure better jobs, says Sabah DCM

KOTA KINABALU: Education is the key to uplifting a family's socio-economic status and transforming the wider community, says Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam (pic).

“It is a tool to bring change and development, creating quality human capital and contributing to the nation’s administration, healthcare, security and other services,” he said.

Though in reality, not every family is able to provide the best education for their children.

Hence, the government continues to provide assistance with the cooperation from various agencies and parties for the needy, Gunsalam said.

“The government understands and empathises with parents or guardians who are less able to fulfil the needs of their children, more so during the start of every school year, term or semester,” he said.

“That is why the government remains committed to helping students from primary to tertiary levels, by providing grants and assistance to those eligible,” said Gunsalam at the special assistance scheme programme by Kumpulan Yayasan Sabah at SMK Timbua in Ranau district on Friday (Aug 9).

He urged parents and students to prioritise education to secure better jobs as a means of improving their quality of life and helping the family escape from poverty.

“Strive to be the best version of you, because in today’s competitive world, only the best can succeed,” said Gunsalam, adding that he believes that every student and every child has the potential to develop, if they put their efforts and minds into it.

The Kundasang assemblyman, who was also a Yayasan Sabah scholarship recipient himself, thanked the foundation for providing help to needy students all these years.

For this event, the foundation donated SPM revision books and scientific calculators to 50 needy students.
