Delivery rider loses watch and burgers to police extortion

PETALING JAYA: Two policemen allegedly extorted a food delivery rider and stole his watch as well as nicked three burgers that he was supposed to deliver to a customer in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Sources said the 22-year-old man was riding his motorcycle along the Shah Alam Expressway near Bandar Puteri on Tuesday when he was flagged down by two policemen in a patrol car at about 1am.

After checking the man’s identity card and driving licence, the policemen found the road tax of his motorcycle had expired, and allegedly demanded RM1,000 from the victim if he wanted to be let off.

It was learnt that when the victim told the policemen he did not have the cash, they allegedly threatened to haul him to a police station and impound his motorcycle.

Sources said a policeman then patted him down and searched his sling bag.

After pleading with the policemen, they allegedly agreed to accept RM90 the victim had on him, and a bag containing the three burgers.

The policemen and the victim left the scene, but moments later, the rider pulled over by a road shoulder and upon checking his sling bag, found his watch missing.

The man had initially thought he left his watch at home, but later suspected it was stolen after he could not find it in his house. The victim then lodged a police report.

Sources said investigations were conducted promptly and the two policemen, both corporals aged 39, were nabbed on Wednesday at about 7pm when they showed up for work.

Several items were also seized from the suspects for the investigation.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the arrest when contacted yesterday, adding that the men had been remanded.

“We have repeatedly warned all personnel to not get involved in undesirable actions and will take stern action against those involved,” Comm Hussein said.
