Man arrested in Tawau after syabu found


Police arrested a local man found with 55.02g of syabu stashed in Tawau home.

TAWAU: A man here was arrested after police found 55.02g of syabu stashed in his house.

The 37-year-old suspect was picked up during a raid by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at a house in Taman Semarak on Thursday (Aug 8) afternoon, said Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin.

Jasmin said the raid team found the man in the living room of the house and added that he surrendered a transparent plastic packet.

Upon inspection, the packet contained nine smaller plastic packets of varying sizes which held a crystalline substance suspected to be syabu estimated worth RM3,310.

“The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and tetrahydrocannabinol,” said ACP Jasmin in a statement.

He added that the police are working to trace the drug distribution network within the district and are questioning the suspect.

“The police are also actively seeking other individuals linked to this case,” he noted.

The suspect remains in remand and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Jasmin urged the public to provide any information on criminal or drug-related activities, including tips about family members, neighbours, or local residents suspected of illegal involvement.
