Cops wrap up probe of scuffle at football match


KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation paper on an individual who allegedly brought a sharp weapon to a scuffle at the KLFA football centre in Desa Melawati has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Lazim Ismail said police have proposed charging the suspect under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

"We are still waiting for feedback from the DPP," he said when contacted on Monday (Aug 12).

ACP Mohammad Lazim said a 22-year-old man, who is the main suspect, was detained along with his 21-year-old foreign girlfriend at a house in Klang on Thursday (Aug 8).

"They were remanded until today and the man has since been released on police bail while his girlfriend is still being held by the Immigration Department," he added.

It was reported that police were tracking down a man who allegedly brandished a sharp weapon, believed to be a "kerambit" knife, during a scuffle between two football teams.

ACP Mohammad Lazim had said police received a report from a 23-year-old man at 2.21am on Aug 5.

"The complainant claimed that there was a scuffle between his team and a rival team.

"During the incident, one of the players from the rival team brought a sharp weapon and pointed it at one of the complainant's teammates," he said.

No one was injured in the incident.
