Penang police issue 195 summonses, confiscate 48 motorcycles in Ops Samseng Jalanan

BUTTERWORTH: A total of 195 summonses were issued for various offences following an integrated traffic operation dubbed Ops "Samseng Jalanan" here.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the operation was carried out on Sunday (Aug 11) from 5pm to 12am at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) near Bagan Ajam.

"The operations aimed to prevent illegal racing activities and ensure road users always comply with road rules.

"This is to reduce the risk of accidents. We inspected 67 motorcycles and confiscated 48 of them under Section 64 (1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 12).

Comm Hamzah said the operation, which was headed by the Penang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department also involved officers and personnel from the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, the Butterworth Police Station and the Northern Seberang Perai district police headquarters.

He said they were committed to putting a stop to these activities.

"People especially young road users are cautioned not to get involved in illegal racing activities or any other illegal road activities that can cause danger to their and others’ lives," he said.
