Heist suspect dies in shootout with cops, one policeman injured

KAJANG: A man in his 30s was killed following a shootout with the police near the Sungai Balak toll plaza of the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a police patrol team attempted to stop the suspect's car near the toll plaza at about 3pm on Tuesday (Aug 13).

"The suspect refused to stop his car and fired shots at the police, forcing police personnel to fire back.

"The suspect was killed while a police personnel was also injured," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The suspect had six prior cases in his criminal record and was also believed to be involved in a goldsmith heist at a shopping mall in Kajang a few months ago, he said.

"We are investigating the incident under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder," he said.
