Perak cops arrest three suspects in connection with Manjung gang robbery

IPOH: The police have arrested three people suspected of being involved in a gang robbery in Ayer Tawar, Manjung.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris (pic) said a woman was arrested in Kampar on Aug 9 while two men were arrested in Ayer Tawar on Aug 11.

Comm Azizi said they are believed to have been involved in the incident that took place at about 12am on Aug 8..

"All three are believed to be working for an illegal money-lending syndicate," he said at a press conference after the monthly gathering at the state police contingent headquarters here on Tuesday (Aug 13).

Comm Azizi said during the incident, four people wearing black clothes, helmets and face masks rushed into the victim's house.

"The victim, his family and two friends were having supper before they heard a knock on the back door. The victim opened the door and four people rushed into the house and hit him with wooden sticks," he said.

"One of the suspects took a knife from a table and slashed the victim's back. A scuffle ensued between the suspects and the victim's family while they were trying to save themselves," added Comm Azizi.

He then said that the four suspects escaped in two cars while the victim's mother screamed for help.

Comm Azizi said the victim, his sister, mother and two of his friends suffered injuries to their backs and limbs.

"They lost about RM5,000, two mobile phones, while another mobile phone was broken," he added.

Comm Azizi said the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in a robbery.

"Those found guilty can be jailed up to 20 years, whipped and fined. Investigations found that the victim borrowed about RM1,000 from loan sharks and did not pay them back," he said.

He added that the police are still trying to locate the fourth suspect.

"Those with information can contact investigating officer Insp Amir Hafiz Mohd Rosli at 011-2405 7360 or the Manjung police operations room at 05-689 9222," said Comm Azizi.
