Admin assistant claims trial to submitting false claims

SEREMBAN: A 41-year-old government administrative assistant claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to two counts of deceiving a vocational college in Rembau by submitting false documents related to the purchase of office supplies totaling RM22,058.60.

Foziana Isa pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

She was charged with deceiving her principal which is Kolej Vokasional Dato Undang Haji Muhammad Sharip by submitting payment vouchers worth RM4,757.10 and RM17,301.50 for the purchase of office supplies

The accused was charged with having the knowledge that the details in the accompanying documents from a company contained false details and the supplies were never sent to the college.

Foziana was charged with committing the offences at the college on Dec 5, 2022, and Jan 6, 2023.

She was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian anti-Corruption Commission act 2009, which is punishable under Section 24(2) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount involved in the case or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Azrif Firdaus Mohamad Ali offered the accused bail of RM8,000 with one surety pending next mention of the case.

However, counsel for the accused Noramin Petra Nor Hanapiah asked for bail to be lowered to RM5,000 as her husband was also employed as an administrative assistant and the couple earned an average of RM6,000 a month.

The couple, he said, also had to provide for their six school-going children.

Judge Meor Sulaiman then fixed bail at RM6,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report at the MACC office on the first Saturday of every month till the case is disposed of.

He set Sept 13 for next mention.
