Cops nab two in Sabah for selling ketum powder, water

KOTA KINABALU: Two suspects were nabbed for allegedly selling ketum in Ranau district.

The two men were nabbed separately on Aug 10 and Aug 11, said Ranau OCPD Deputy Supt Mursalin Mahmud.

He said in the first raid, a team of narcotics crime investigation officials from Ranau and the state police headquarters in Kepayan arrested a 41-year-old man from a house at Kampung Bongkud, Jalan Narawang.

DSP Mursalin added that 369kg of ketum powder and 16 bottles of what is believed to be ketum water were also seized.

“Three sacks of ketum powder were later discovered outside the house, stored in a total of 369 packets of plastics,” said DSP Mursalin.

He added that the initial investigations showed that ketum water can be sold for RM16 per bottle while the ketum leaf powder can fetch RM100 per packet.

A second raid was conducted at Kampung Kaparingan the next day, where a local man was arrested.

DSP Mursalin said several bottles of bottled ketum water were confiscated from this man.

Both suspects are being investigated under the Poisons Act 1952.
