MUAR: The main suspect in a murder-arson case that resulted in the deaths of his parents and niece in Kampung Paya Redan here last Friday has been arrested and will be remanded on Wednesday (Aug 14) morning.

Sinar Harian reports that the 48-year-old suspect is expected to be brought to the Muar Magistrate's Court to obtain a remand order.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz confirmed the arrest and said that further details regarding the capture will be provided later.

"The suspect will be taken for remand this morning, and I will issue a media statement later," he said when contacted on Wednesday.

This arrest comes after the couple's eldest son went on the run after their house was engulfed in flames in the early hours of Friday morning.

Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82; his wife, Ara Abd Hamid, 76; and their granddaughter, Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11 were all killed due to the 1.30am incident.

The elderly couple died at the scene while their granddaughter passed away while receiving treatment at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar.

Noradriana was buried on Saturday at the Kampung Paya Redan Muslim Cemetery.

The bodies of her grandparents are still at the HSPF Forensic Unit for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests after both were almost 80% burnt.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after finding signs of criminal acts on the bodies of all three deceased victims.
