Civil servant on trial for fraud charges over stationery

SEREMBAN: A government administrative assistant has claimed trial for two counts of fraud involving a vocational college in Rembau.

Foziana Isa, 41, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her before Sessions Court judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

She is accused of deceiving Kolej Vokasional Dato Undang Haji Muhammad Sharip by submitting payment vouchers worth RM4,757.10 and RM17,301.50 for the purchase of office supplies that were never delivered to the college.

Foziana is alleged to have committed the offences at the college on Dec 5, 2022, and Jan 6, 2023.

She faces charges under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which is punishable under Section 24(2) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount involved, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Azrif Firdaus Mohamad Ali proposed bail at RM8,000 with one surety.

However, defence counsel Noramin Petra Nor Hanapiah requested a reduction to RM5,000, citing Foziana’s family’s average monthly income of RM6,000 and the need to support her six school-age children.

Judge Meor Sulaiman set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and ordered Foziana to report to the MACC office on the first Saturday of every month until the case is resolved.

He also fixed Sept 13 for case mention.
