IPOH: The Ipoh City Council will not issue notices to premises to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the National Day celebrations this year.
Ipoh City Council secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak said that flying the Jalur Gemilang on premises should stem from one's interest rather than being mandated.
"This year we have not handed out notices to premises to fly the Jalur Gemilang as we believe that it should come from one's interest.
"Previously, we had sent notices to premises to fly the national flag. We hope that the National Month's spirit can be upheld by the people out there," he said after the MBI-level Jalur Gemilang flying campaign at the council on Wednesday (Aug 15).
Ahmad Munir said that as part of the national month celebrations at the council level, a total of 10,000 Jalur Gemilang flags were distributed throughout the city.
"About 7,000 flags were installed at various locations in the city and 3,000 flags were given to the premises.
"We hope that this year’s National Day will bring renewed spirit to all council members in their continued efforts to develop the city of Ipoh towards a prosperous Ipoh," he added.
The MBI-level Jalur Gemilang flying campaign at the council on Wednesday (Aug 15) began as early as 8.30am, featuring patriotic song performances, a band performance by Sam Tet Ipoh Secondary School (SMJK), a parade of the council’s drill contingents, and the installation of the Jalur Gemilang on MBI’s official vehicles.
