RM2.2mil worth of drugs seized by cops

JOHOR BARU: The arrest of a 44-year-old man at the compound of a condominium in Larkin here led police to uncover RM2.2mil worth of drugs, some packed in powdered juice packaging.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the raid was conducted between 2pm and 4.30pm on Aug 7.

“Upon inspecting the suspect’s car, we found powdered juice packaging believed to contain drugs.

“The suspect then led us to a double-storey shoplot in Taman Pelangi, where more drugs with similar packaging were seized.

“All of the drugs were estimated to be worth more than RM2.2mil,” he told a press conference yesterday.

The confiscated drugs consisted of 12.6kg of ecstasy stashed in 299 packets worth RM2.1mil, 123g of ketamin worth RM24,600, 1,541 ecstasy pills weighing 621.8g worth RM77,050 as well as 13 Erimin-5 pills weighing 3.9g worth RM240.

ACP Raub said background checks showed the suspect has no prior record and tested negative for drugs.

“His tactic is to sell these drugs to individual customers via phone calls around Johor Baru.

“The shoplot is used as a store to pack the drugs.

“We believe the suspect has been active since June,” he said, adding that police are currently tracking down another racket member.

He said the seized drugs could cater to 44,180 addicts.

“During the raid, two blenders, two golden cards, jewellery and cash amounting to RM700 were also seized.

“We have extended the suspect’s remand for another week to assist in the investigation,” he said, adding that the suspect’s car was also confiscated.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Separately, ACP Raub said 2,997 people have been detained for various drug offences from January until Aug 12 this year.

“We have also confiscated 137.4 kg of drugs worth RM571mil and items worth RM6.5mil in the same period,” he said.
