Cops bust job scam syndicate

IPOH: Police have busted a job scam syndicate with the arrest of 11 people in Taiping following a raid.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the raid took place on Aug 14 at about 1.30pm.

“Police detained seven men and four women, aged between 21 and 26.

They were believed to be operating a centre providing fake job offers on social media.

“They were targeting locals and Singaporeans.

“The syndicate had been operating for the last two weeks and the members were recruited from Taiping, Kerian and Selama in Perak, as well as Johor and Singapore,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Comm Azizi said about 130 cases were solved after reports were lodged by the victims.

He said during the raid, the police seized various items including 35 handphones, 98 ATM cards and four gold bars, among others, worth about RM500,000.
