Johor supports National Climate Change Bill, says MB

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor will support the National Climate Change Bill, which is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pic).

The Johor Mentri Besar stated that climate change is not just theoretical, but its impacts are visible and felt by everyone, including in Johor.

"For example, Johor is hit with floods annually, and the heatwave is intensifying. With this in mind, the state would support the National Climate Change bill when it is tabled next year," he said.

"Other countries have been progressing in addressing climate change. It is not too late for us, but we must take drastic action against it," he added.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Machap assemblyman, made this statement in a press conference after attending the Youth Sustainability Forum 2024 held at a hotel here on Saturday (Aug 17).

Regarding the event, he mentioned it was vital to get the views of youth on sustainability and environmental issues to create a better world.

"It is crucial for our youth and future generations to have a platform to express their views on climate issues," he stated.

"If we do not involve the youth, I fear the future will be bleak not only for Johor but for the entire world, as each of them can play a significant role in sustainability," he added.
