Cops arrest six, hand out 300 summonses in Perak traffic ops


IPOH: Police here arrested six youths and handed out 300 summonses in an operation that ran from 11pm on Saturday (Aug 17) to 8.30am on Sunday (Aug 18) at KM43 of Jalan Teluk Intan-Sitiawan in Hilir Perak.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the youths were aged from 18 to 21 and were arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.

He added that the operation also included officers from the state Environment Department and was aimed at tackling motorcyclists and noisy exhaust pipes.

"We checked 150 motorcycles, 21 cars and 211 motorists aged between 13 and 38.

"The motorists included eight secondary school pupils and 10 higher learning institution students," he said in a statement on Sunday.

"We seized 42 motorcycles under Section 64 of the Act," he said. "The Environment Department issued 15 compounds for noise offences," he added.

ACP Ahmad Adnan said the police will continue to enforce the law against motorcyclists that commit offences.

"This is to deter road accidents and prevent street crimes in the district. The people are advised to adhere to the law to ensure the safety of all road users," he said.

"Any information related to Mat Rempit or traffic offences can be forwarded to the district police control centre at 05-622 2222," he added.
