Family of murdered teacher allowed to claim her body on Aug 19


MELAKA: Melaka police will hand over the remains of murdered teacher Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi to her family on Monday (Aug 19).

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the next-of-kin were told that the body of the 34-year-old mother of three may be claimed at Hospital Melaka by 2pm.

"The 37-year-old suspect will be also charged in Melaka on Monday," he said here on Sunday (Aug 18).

Istiqomah, a teacher at SK Kota Masai 3 in Johor, was reported missing after she failed to return home from work on Dec 26 last year.

The victim's car was found in the parking lot of a supermarket in Pasir Gudang, Johor the following day.

On Dec 31, the decapitated body of a woman was discovered in a rubbish bin along the Alor Gajah-Tampin road near Kampung Rimau in Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah.

Earlier this month, police identified the victim as Istiqomah through DNA tests conducted by Bukit Aman.

Upon confirming the victim's identity, Melaka police launched a probe with their Johor counterparts, resulting in the arrest of a married couple in their 30s in Chemor, Perak on Aug 5.

The male suspect then led police to more body parts belonging to Istiqomah, about 6km from where her body was found.

The suspect's wife was released on bail after it was found that she had no connection with the case, police said.

It is believed the suspect was a former college mate of the victim, and they were involved in business dealings.
