Woman claims former MP sexually harassed her

PETALING JAYA: A woman, in her 20s, has lodged a police report alleging that a former MP sexually harassed her.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said police detected on Sunday (Aug 18) an 18-second TikTok video that went viral, which claimed that a woman was sexually harassed by a man she knew.

"We confirm that we received a police report from the victim on Aug 6, claiming she was sexually harassed twice by a man when she was at a popular hypermarket in Kota Damansara.

"We have started an investigation under Section 507A (repeated harassment) and 509 (word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person) of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Investigations showed that the suspect was a local man, a non-executive director of a statutory corporation.

"We will call the suspect to record his statement soon," he said.

ACP Shahrulnizam urged those with information to contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 03-79662222.
