THERE will be a groundbreaking ceremony in Kerling, Selangor, today for the first of its kind Saivite Hindu institute and temple.

Saivism is a denomination of Hinduism which worships Lord Shiva. The college was the brainchild of the Saiva Thirukoil Kalai Kalvi Aravariyam (Saiva College Foundation) and Malaysia Saiva Samaya Peravai (Saiva Council of Malaysia), with the support of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam.

Dr Nagappan Arumugam founded the Aravariyam and mooted the idea to bring together the various Saivite organisations in the country.

The entire development is expected to cost about RM50mil and the Aravariyam welcomes donations to the effort, he added.

Muniraj, 65, was returning home from the local police station when three men attacked him with machetes.

Passers-by helped get the victim to a nearby hospital, but he had died by then.
