KUALA LUMPUR: The registration for fleet card under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) is facing a backlog due to high demand, says Fuziah Salleh.
The Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said the ministry was monitoring the situation closely and had taken the necessary action to expedite the process.
“We have held discussions with oil companies to enhance efficiency and speed up the process.
“I was told that due to high demand, the processing period will take between four and five weeks, instead of two weeks, for the cards to be issued,” she said after launching the Jaya Grocer members’ Durian Rahmah party event at the KL East Mall here.
A total of 33 types of vehicles under the SKDS will continue to enjoy subsidised diesel at RM2.15 per litre via the fleet card system.
Fuziah said so far, out of the 410,000 eligible vehicles, only 290,000 had come forward to apply for the card.
“We hope eligible applicants for the targeted subsidy will do so soonest as it could potentially impact the prices of goods.
“There is no reason for them to raise prices as the subsidy scheme is already in place,” she added.
On the event organised by Jaya Grocer and wholesaler and retailer Agro Best Services Sdn Bhd, she lauded the initiative, which saw a whopping 5,000kg of the King of Fruits sold within five hours.
Fuziah said all parties, including businesses and consumers, could benefit through such creative and attractive campaigns.
“The people can enjoy fresh produce directly from plantations at a lower price.
“For example, I was told that premium durians were going for between RM9.99 and RM26.90 per kg.
“This can help to lessen the burden of the people and enable them to enjoy local fruits while the government works towards addressing the issue of rising living costs,” she said.
Fuziah also said enforcement teams would be going to the ground and urged the people to lodge complaints on profiteering activities.
Meanwhile, Agro Best Services founder Loke Kah Peng said the fruits on sale were brought in from three local plantations in Raub, Pahang.
He said the collaboration was timely to mark the upcoming National Day celebrations and assist the people to cut down on their daily expenses.
Jaya Grocer chief marketing officer Joseph Teoh said they were delighted with the good turnout and high sales volume.
