Man arrested after punching woman during roadside row, says Tapah police

IPOH: Police have arrested a man for punching a woman in an apparent road bully incident near KM336 southbound of the North-South Expressway in Tapah.

Tapah OCPD Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi said the incident occurred on July 31 at about 2.30pm. A 1min video of the incident had also gone viral, he added.

The woman was driving towards Kuala Lumpur when she apparently overtook a white-coloured multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on the expressway.

"The driver of the MPV is believed to be unhappy with the incident and chased after the woman while repeatedly flashing the headlight," Supt Mohd Naim said in a statement.

"The woman then stopped her car by the side of the road while two men also alighted from the MPV and approached her," he said, adding that the video clip was detected by the police on X on Monday (Aug 19).

"An argument ensued between both parties before one of the two men punched the woman in the face," he said, adding that the victim had later sought treatment at the Tapah Hospital.

Supt Mohd Naim said the police have arrested one of the two men on Aug 1.

"The man has no previous crime records and we are still trying to locate the other man," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 506 / 323 of the Penal Code.

"We want to advise the people to always be prudent and patient while driving on the road.

"The people are also urged not to speculate on the incident and to allow the investigation to be conducted," he said, adding that those with information about the incident can contact investigating officer Sjn Suhaida Mohamad Shuid at 05-401 1222 or 011-3951 8320.
