Ministry addressing issue on Sarawak ID papers

KUCHING: The Home Ministry, through a special task force, is addressing the issue of people without identification documents in Sarawak.

It has received 13,012 applications from residents seeking personal identification documents.

The ministry said that this total is the result of task force operations conducted in various zones and areas of Sarawak as of July 31.

The task force was established to help resolve the issue of Sarawakians lacking identification documents.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed to extend the task force’s term for another year to address the issue.

He said this is because some zones in the state have not yet completed the process of gathering information, especially in the interiors.

Saifuddin Nasution said this after holding a meeting of the Sarawak-level Special Committee on Citizenship, together with Sarawak Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah here yesterday.
