BAGAN DATUK: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated RM46.2mil for the development of the People's Housing Project (PPR) in Bagan Datuk.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this included the construction of 150 semi-detached units with a built-up area of 660 square feet under Program Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera (PPRS), formerly known as the hardcore poor housing programme (PPRT).
"The unique aspect of these homes is that the plot size is 32ft x 65ft compared to the usual 22ft x 65ft, and quotas will be given to eligible individuals regardless of whether they are Malay, Chinese, or Indian, based on the population percentage here in Bagan Datuk," he said during the groundbreaking ceremony of the RPT Simpang Tiga Land Development Project (PPK) in Bagan Datuk here on Monday (Aug 19).
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said that his ministry would ensure that all eligible applicants would have the opportunity to apply for the housing quota.
The Bagan Datuk MP added that if any district officers had suitable land for the project, they were welcome to propose it to the ministry.
Meanwhile, the RPT Simpang Tiga PPK is being developed on government land covering 7,896 hectares (19.74 acres), including the provision of basic infrastructure facilities equipped with social amenities such as an open hall, surau, kindergarten, and playground for community use.
The project is one of several being developed in Perak, including in the districts of Perak Tengah, Muallim, and Kerian, based on development needs submitted by each district's administration through the Perak government.
The project, expected to be completed by August 2026, is being carried out by Felcra Berhad through its subsidiary Felcra Bina Sdn Bhd and is expected to benefit 750 residents around Rungkup, thus realising the ministry's vision for "Prosperous Rural Areas".- Bernama
