Suspect in teacher’s murder charged today


MELAKA: The suspect in the murder case of teacher Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi will be charged today.Police here will also hand over the remains of the victim to her family members today.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the next of kin had been told that the remains of the 34-year-old mother of three could be claimed by 2pm at Hospital Melaka.

“The 37-year-old suspect will be charged at the Melaka court on Monday,” he said yesterday.

Istiqomah, a teacher at SK Kota Masai 3 in Johor was reported missing after she failed to return home from work on Dec 26, 2023.

The victim’s car was found in the parking lot at a supermarket in Pasir Gudang, Johor, the next day.

On Dec 31 last year, the decapitated body of a woman was discovered in a rubbish bin, left along the Alor Gajah-Tampin road near Kampung Rimau in Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah.

Police later identified that the remains belonged to Istiqomah through DNA tests conducted by Bukit Aman on Aug 2.

Based on the new lead, Melaka police opened an investigation together with their counterpart in Johor before arresting a married couple, aged 36 and 37, in Chemor, Perak, on Aug 5.

The male suspect then led to the discovery of more of the victim’s remains, about 6km from where her body was found.

The suspect’s wife was released on police bail after it was found that she had no connection with the case.
