Elderly man found safe three days after being reported missing in Tenom

KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man who had been missing for three days was found safe in a neighbouring village.

Joseph Silang, 60, from Kampung Baru Jumpa in Tenom, left his home on Sunday morning (Aug 18) to tend to his farm nearby.

When he failed to return home, his worried family contacted the Fire and Rescue Services Department at 10.26pm that evening.

“The victim had been missing for three days before villagers discovered him in Kampung Masanoi, approximately 5 km from his home, today at 12.15pm,” said Tenom fire station chief Mudi Pengiran on Tuesday (Aug 20)

Though exhausted, Silang was found to be in stable condition.

“It appears that the victim became disoriented and lost his way while returning from his farm. He kept walking until he ended up in the neighbouring village,” added Mudi.

The search and rescue operation involved nine police officers, seven personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Department, eight members of the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department, and 30 villagers.

The operation was concluded at 2.08pm on Tuesday.
