Two men charged with robbery in Ipoh


IPOH: Two men have been jointly charged at the Sessions Court here with voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery in Ayer Tawar, Manjung, early this month.

Ling Siaw Hock, 33, and Alson Ik Kai Jun, 20, pleaded not guilty when the charge under Section 394 of the Penal Code was read together with Section 34 of the same Code before judge Hilmiah Yusof on Tuesday (Aug 20).

Both men were said to have committed the offence at a house with five occupants at 12.30am on Aug 8.

They were accused of taking two handphones and a MyKad during the incident.

If convicted, they could face up to 20 years' in jail, a fine, or whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amirah Nabihan Shahrir requested bail be set at RM15,000 for each of the accused.

The accused's lawyer Sandeep Singh, meanwhile, requested lower bail.

Hilmiah set bail at RM12,000 for Ling and RM10,000 for Ik.

Both were ordered to report to the nearest police station on a monthly basis.

The court also fixed Sept 24 for mention.

It was reported that several people were injured during an attack by a group of four individuals using wooden sticks and knives at a house in Ayer Tawar, Manjung, on Aug 8.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said in a press conference last week that investigations revealed one of the robbery victims had borrowed about RM1,000 from loan sharks.
