Food court in George Town ordered closed due to hygiene violations

GEORGE TOWN: A popular food court here has been ordered to close from Aug 20 to Sept 3 due to hygiene violations.

The notice was issued by the state Health Department under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 after the violations were detected, including handlers lacking typhoid vaccinations and the necessary training as well as the storage of expired and unsanitary food items.

It said that some stalls were said to have cockroaches while others were found to have food handlers using dirty towels and greasy, blackened cooking equipment.
