PETALING JAYA: The elevation of Malaysia-India bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership widens prospects for future collaboration between the two nations, says MCA's Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting.

Here is her statement in full:

Support for Malaysia-India comprehensive strategic partnership and promotion of deep cooperation in emerging areas

Following the joint announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to elevate Malaysia-India bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the MCA International Affairs and Party Diplomacy Bureau supports this significant milestone. This new phase of cooperation will widen prospects for future collaboration between our nations.

As major economic players in Asia, Malaysia and India have enjoyed successful cooperation and close interactions over the decades, evident in cultural exchanges and trade. The elevation of ties is a proactive response to globalisation challenges, creating new momentum for cooperation.

Both countries should leverage each other's strengths to boost trade and investment, with ample opportunities in large consumer markets and a growing middle class. High-tech sectors like semiconductors and financial technology present significant collaboration potential. India's IT leadership and Malaysia's strength in manufacturing and electronics can combine to enhance global competitiveness.

Moreover, emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence and technology will shape the future global economy and impact national security and innovation. Strengthening cooperation in these areas will enhance our technological capabilities and contribute to global development.

Our bureau also advocates for increased academic exchanges and talent development. With both countries possessing top-tier educational resources, enhanced collaboration can cultivate professionals to drive future innovation.

The comprehensive strategic partnership will elevate economic cooperation and positively impact regional and global levels. We encourage governments, businesses, and academia in both nations to seize this historic opportunity and advance Malaysia-India cooperation.
