Police to record Muhyiddin’s statement, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will only be recording a statement from former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today, says Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The police were originally scheduled to take his statement yesterday but the matter had to be postponed because Muhyiddin’s lawyer was unable to be present. It is said that at the time his lawyer was still abroad.

When contacted, the IGP confirmed the matter.

“The statement will be recorded at his office at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.

Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in a statement on Monday, expressed anger and displeasure against the former Prime Minister, adding that he wanted police action to be taken for allegedly touching on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues while campaigning in the Nenggiri state by-election recently.

Tengku Hassanal expressed anger and displeasure at the Pagoh MP for deliberately and cynically citing the responsibilities and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, when he was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Tengku Hassanal said that as a former prime minister and a veteran politician, Muhyiddin’s statement had manipulated the facts and brought about a negative narration to the people that Sultan Abdullah did not act justly when he picked the 10th prime minister.

“His statement also reflects immaturity, as though he cannot accept the fact that he was not appointed prime minister,” Tengku Hassanal said in the statement.

According to Bernama, Pahang police received 28 reports lodged over the matter as of Sunday and more reports have been received since then.

Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the investigation would be carried out by the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.

“So far, we have received 28 reports lodged in all Pahang districts,” he said.

Amir Syaffiq Hamzah, Private Secretary to Tengku Hassanal, has also lodged a police report against the former prime minister.

A speech by the former prime minister allegedly involving the sovereignty of Sultan Pahang during his tenure as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong went viral recently.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Perikatan Nasional chairman said he had no intention of insulting the royal institution of the Malay Rulers or incite division among the people.

“I would like to emphasise that my speech at Nenggiri was a statement of fact that was not meant to disrespect the institution of the Malay Rulers or instigate any sort of disharmony.

“I believe that my statement did not violate any of our country’s laws,” wrote the former prime minister.
