Driver killed in two-lorry collision in Simpang Renggam


SIMPANG RENGGAM: A male lorry driver was killed in an accident with another lorry on the North-South Expressway.

Renggam Fire station chief Mohd Nizar Ma’mun said the incident happened at KM69 of the expressway on Thursday (Aug 22)

He said they received an emergency call about the incident at 6.29pm. Six firemen and a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle were deployed to the scene.

Mohd Nizar said the team, led by senior officer II Shoromi Salih, reached the accident site about 30km away at 7.06pm.

“The driver of the lorry and his 43-year male assistant suffered injuries while the other lorry driver died on the spot,’’ he said in a statement.

Mohd Nizar said the victim was pinned in the driver’s seat, and firemen extracted the body without using special equipment.

He said the public sent the two injured to the Kluang Hospital.

“The victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action,’’ added Mohd Nizar.

The operation ended at 7.25pm.
