KUALA LUMPUR: The topping out ceremony for TAR UMT's new Student and SME Centre marks a milestone for the university, said Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee, who is Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) Education Foundation board of trustees chairman, witnessed the ceremony here on Thursday (Aug 22).

The ceremony involved the pouring of cement to complete the centre's top deck, which will house a football field and athletics track.

He said that the centre is important for the University's progression as outlined in its 10-year roadmap.

"This infrastructure is a symbol of our unwavering dedication to foster a community where learning, entrepreneurship and collaboration thrive," he said in his speech.

The new Student and SME Centre is a six-storey building with a gross floor area of 1.5 million sq ft (139,354 sq m) and 1,431 car parking spaces and cost approximately RM210mil to construct.

Construction started on Sept 8, 2021, and the main building is targeted for completion on Dec 31, 2024.

"With the vision to be the central hub of all student activities and SME ventures, the centre will play a crucial role in developing well-rounded human capital and unleashing highly potential SMEs capable of strengthening the country's economic foundation," added the MCA president.

The student centre is a purpose-built hub for student activities, which will be equipped with various modern facilities and amenities, aimed at enhancing the multi-dimensional learning experience of the students.

The SME centre is a one-stop centre that aims to bring together small and medium-sized enterprises from various industries.
