Ulu Tiram shooting attack survivor Sergeant Mohd Hasif will not quit the force, to uphold justice

KOTA TINGGI: Despite being shot twice, Sergeant Mohd Hasif Roslan, who survived the Ulu Tiram police station attack some three months back, has no intention of quitting the force.

The 38-year-old said that the memory of his deceased colleagues, the late constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, who died in the attack, keeps his fire burning to continue to serve and protect the public.

“Those two are the reason why I am still a policeman. To keep their memories and struggle alive and to uphold justice, I will continue being a law enforcement officer,” he added.

Sergeant Mohd Hasif said this to pressmen when met after receiving financial aid from Respa at the Kota Tinggi police district headquarters here on Thursday (Aug 22).

He added that both Ahmad Azza and Muhamad Syafiq were the best colleagues he had the privilege of working with.

“The three of us were very close. We had a brotherly relationship and will always do various activities together including playing sports during our free time,” he said.

Recalling the incident, Sergeant Mohd Hasif said the attacker shot him twice and the bullets hit his left shoulder and hip.

“I was conscious throughout the incident including when the ambulance rushed me to Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru for treatment.

“The doctor who treated me told me that two bullets pierced through my left shoulder and hip,” he added saying that he still feels the pain on the left side of his body.

Sergeant Mohd Hasif, who is currently attached to the Kota Tinggi police headquarters, said that he is on physiotherapy treatment to help him fully recover from his injuries.

Despite still having some pain due to the injuries, the treatment was going well and has not affected his duty as a policeman.

Meanwhile, Respa president Datuk Meor Chek Hussien Mahayuddin said that the association was able to raise some RM34,000 in donations to Sergeant Mohd Hasif, and the families of Ahmad Azza and Muhamad Syafiq.

“We raised the amount within a month with donations coming from our members, corporate figures and members of the public who were touched by the sacrifices made by these policemen,” he added.

“The association handed RM13,000 each to the families of the late Ahmad Azza and Muhamad Syafiq, while RM8,000 was handed over to Sergeant Mohd Hasif,” he added.

In the Ulu Tiram police station attack on May 17, two policemen, Ahmad Azza, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq, 24, were killed.

The attacker was shot dead at the scene while five of his family members have since been charged in court with a total of nine charges linked to terrorism between them.
