Father killed, sons seriously hurt in Sabah crash

KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed while his two sons were seriously injured in an accident at the Dewata area, between the Lahad Datu-Tawau stretch on Thursday (Aug 22) night.

Firefighters were alerted of the incident at 10pm, and a team of nine men arrived at the scene 36 minutes later.

The victim, identified as Rey Davilla, 54, succumbed to his injury at the scene while his sons, Reymar, 27, and Rendell, 20, were immediately rushed to the Lahad Datu Hospital.

“Initial investigation revealed that the father, who was driving the car, had lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the left side of the road heading towards Kunak from Lahad Datu.

“It was drizzling and occasionally raining heavily throughout last night,” said Lahad Datu fire station chief Sumsoa Rashid.

He added that firemen found three men trapped in a car.

“We used special tools to extricate the victims from the wrecked car. One was pronounced dead by a medical official, while the two were seriously injured.

“The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment, while the body was handed to the police for further action,” he said.

He said the operation ended at 11.20pm.
