JAKARTA: Indonesia’s Media Group of Kompas Gramedia (KG Media) has successfully hosted its Lestari Summit 2024, which further reaffirms its commitment to upholding and promoting sustainability values.

The summit, held here on Aug 21, served as a vital platform in the exchanging of ideas, fostering meaningful collaborations, and developing practical solutions to address the critical challenges facing the world today.

In a statement, KG Media chief executive officer Andy Budiman said, “Lestari is a form of our commitment at KG Media to sustainability.

“Today we invite all of you to not only listen, but also act. Let’s work together to create small actions in pursuit of a bigger impact. Every small step we take today will shape a brighter future for all of us.”

Themed Fostering Sustainability Through Local Practice and Policy Making, the summit focused on four key pillars essential to driving sustainable progress. They are:

> Inclusivity: Recognising the importance of every stakeholder’s voice in the journey towards sustainability, the summit emphasised the need for engaging local communities and promoting community-led initiatives as key drivers of fair and impactful solutions.

> Local practice: Understanding that sustainability starts at grassroots level, the summit highlighted the importance of adopting local wisdom and implementing best practices tailored to the unique conditions of each region. Small, locally-driven actions can lead to significant global impacts.

> Policy making: The summit underscored the critical role of fair and balanced policies in shaping a sustainable future. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the event facilitated the formulation of policies that not only protect the environment but also benefit all involved parties.

> Transition: Acknowledging that sustainability is a continuous journey rather than a final destination, the summit encouraged participants to take small but meaningful steps towards a better, more sustainable future, ensuring that no one is left behind in this collective endeavour.

Lestari Summit 2024 culminated with the awards night – Lestari Awards 2024 – that honoured corporate leaders and exemplary programmes or initiatives for their contributions to sustainability.

According to KG Media chief marketing officer Dian Gemiano, the selection of winners was conducted with utmost rigour by EY, in collaboration with assessors from regulatory bodies, academia and sustainability practitioners.

“We at KG Media are merely the organisers. The final decision is entirely in the hands of the assessors, who bring their expertise in regulation, academia, and sustainability to determine the winners,” said Dian.

In keeping with the event’s integrity, the list of winners was kept confidential until the moment of the awards presentation, as evidenced by the trophies that were presented without the recipients’ names.

The Lestari Awards 2024 recognised not only the achievements from the private sector but also commitment of local governments to sustainability.

Looking ahead: Lestari Awards goes regional

KG Media’s Lestari Awards 2024 highlight the significant commitment to sustainability, and in 2025, it will be expanded to the Asia ESG Positive Impact Consortium (A-EPIC) Awards on a regional level.

By collaborating with major media groups across Asean, the expansion aims to create a broader platform for sharing inspiration and best practices among sustainable business leaders throughout the region.

Star Media Group chief business officer Lydia Wang extended her congratulations to KG Media for their visionary leadership in launching the Lestari Awards as well as the summit in Indonesia.

She stated, "The Lestari Awards represent a significant milestone in our collective journey towards a more sustainable Asia.

“As members of the A-EPIC, SMG and KG Media share a commitment to fostering sustainability across the region. By recognising and celebrating leaders who drive impactful change, the Lestari Awards amplify the very values that our consortium stands for.

“KG Media's initiative not only aligns with this vision but also sets a precedent for collaborative efforts in raising awareness and driving action. Star Media Group is proud to be part of this consortium and looks forward to future collaborations that can further strengthen our shared goals,” said Wang, who added that she is looking forward to the regional awards next year.
