KUALA LUMPUR: A Pahang Umno delegate said stern action must be taken against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for remarks against the Sultan of Pahang.
The call was made by Temerloh Umno chief Datuk Ridzuan Hazimin Ramli, who said that action was necessary to avoid such behaviour becoming a precedent.
"We in Pahang are very angry and furious at the allegations which were very insulting towards the Sultan.
"We demand that the authorities take stern action against him," he said when debating the president's policy speech at the Umno general assembly here on Friday (Aug 23).
Ridzuan, who is a lawyer, noted that several police reports were lodged against Muhyiddin following his remarks against Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who was the previous King.
"We do not want such an incident to become a precedent where anyone can insult and bring false accusations against the King which only causes uncertainty," he added.
On Sunday (Aug 18), Pahang police confirmed to have received 28 reports lodged against the Perikatan Nasional chairman over his remarks made during campaigning in Nenggiri.
In a statement on Monday (Aug 19), Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed anger and displeasure at Muhyiddin for deliberately and cynically citing the responsibilities and role of the Sultan of Pahang when he was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Tengku Hasanal said as a former prime minister and a veteran politician, Muhyiddin's statement had manipulated the facts and brought about a negative narrative to the people that Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah did not act justly when he picked the 10th Prime Minister.
On Wednesday (Aug 21), Muhyiddin was said to have had his statement recorded by the police, with investigation papers having since been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers.
